HTP Gel Filtration for Desalting, Buffer Exchange and Fractionation

You are here: Home1 / Applications2 / HTP Gel Filtration for Desalting, Buffer Exchange and Fractionation

PhyNexus Empowers Researchers with Better, Faster, More Consistent Results

PhyNexus Gel Filtration PhyTip Columns are empowering researchers to prepare and process large numbers of potential antibody and protein leads by delivering a fully automated desalting and buffer exchange solution.  Additionally, Gel Filtration PhyTip Columns can be used for separation of proteins from complex samples through size exclusion chromatography (SEC), or fractionation.  Gel Filtration PhyTip Columns can process up to 96 samples in about 30 minutes, saving hours of time, delivering more consistent and reproducible results, and maintaining protein functionality.

Gel Filtration – A “Goodie” but an “Oldie”

Gel filtration for desalting, buffer exchange and fractionation has long been one of the best methods available.  The method for desalting and buffer exchange is well known and very effective.  For fractionation of protein complexes the process is gentle and effective, resulting in easy, clean separations.  But gel filtration is generally slow and requires less or more manual intervention, depending on the application.  These limitations might be okay for early research or low throughput operations, but the speed and pace of discovery and development needs faster processes.

The industry needs a HTP solution that also delivers the superior results of gel filtration.  The few automated solutions that exist are expensive and held customers captive to their hardware/consumable solution.  As researchers screen ever more antibody and recombinant proteins against ever more buffer conditions, a flexible HTP solution is required.

Combining the Benefits of HTP Automation and Gel Filtration

PhyNexus Gel Filtration PhyTip Columns can be fitted to almost any major liquid handing robotic instrument equipped with gripper arm for moving tip trays.  The Gel Filtration PhyTip Columns are top loaded with sample; gravity flow pulls the sample through the gel, and the automated gripper moves the tray as necessary for desalting, buffer exchange or fractionation capture.

The PhyTip Column’s unique dual-frit design creates the perfect conditions for a controlled, effective flow through the gel trapped between the frits.

Before PhyNexus, there were few options to get the excellent results of gel filtration with the significant benefits of high throughput automation.  But now, PhyNexus delivers both to everyone with virtually any major liquid handling robotic instrument.  No major capital cost are required – or at least none that cannot be multi-purposed.  PhyNexus Gel Filtration PhyTip not improves your sample processing productivity, it improves your robotic instrument productivity.
